Maile is an extremely proud mother, and proud Hawaiian. So when her daughter was getting ready to perform a solo Hula at a comeptition on Maui, she knew that she wanted to commemorate her coming of age in a very special way. While the traditional hawaiian heirloom designs are timeless, she wanted something that was more true to their tradition. Her daughter was going to perform a kneeling hula, on a hand-made lauhala mat, and her daughter has always had an affinity for the he'e, or Octopus. She is a well accomplished artist herself too, so her mother had an idea in mind for the design. While we've created 100% lauhala heirloom bangles and rings before, she also wanted the suckers of the octopus to be a prominent part of the design. She actually drew out for us the idea she was thinking, and we used that to hand engrave a completely custom, never before done bangle in a traiditional native tribal style that reflects not only her hawaiian heritage, but also her pride in her daughter. Oh, and her daughter won by the way :)
