Donna was going to be getting married soon, but this wasn't her first marriage. She'd lost her husband recently and was ready for the next chapter of life, but unlike with her first engagement ring, she wanted to play a role in designing the perfect ring for her. Her soon-to-be-fiance was more than happy to let her take the reigns and simply come in at the end to pay - good man. When she got on island, she called and let me know she was looking for a white gold ring, but after some quick back and forth, we upgraded to platinum. The design itself was classic. She wanted pave diamonds down the sides and a hidden halo underneath. The main thing she was unsure about: the shape of the stone. Do we go with an emerald cut? an elongated cushion? Radiant? So we met together at Aloha Roastery in Lihue where we showed her the different cuts and sizes of diamonds so she could see in real life which one she would prefer. Ultimately she went with the radiant cut because unlike an emerald cut which is known for being as see-through as possible, radiants have a 'crushed ice' look and are cut to have many more facets and more sparkle. This wasn't her first ring, so she wanted it to stand out and be what she always wanted. To that point, we decided that the original 2.5 carats wasn't going to be enough, and we upgraded to a 4 carat center diamond. It was a pleasure meeting with Donna, her daughter and her friend over coffee. And now she's happily engaged and getting married soon to the love of her life.
