He reached out because he had seen a design on instagram from another jeweler but wanted to support local and see if we could create something similar and we were happy to oblige. He didn't just want an engagement ring though, he wanted to get the whole wedding set - Engagement Ring, Wedding Band for Her, and Wedding Band for him. We started with the centerpiece, the engagement ring. He knew he wanted an oval center diamond and a tulip basket for the head, but needed some ideas for the rest of the ring. We worked some diamonds onto the shank, and at one point even tried diamonds on the petals of the tulip itself, but decided against that because of the integrity of the ring itself. In the end we had a beautiful classic look that had just enough modern elements to be unique. However, Puna wanted to go a step further. As a believer, he wanted his faith in Christ to be commemorated some way in his ring, since his marriage is ultimately a covenant under God to his now wife. There are many directions you can go with this, but we ultimately landed on an idea which we've never seen before: placing either half of the Ichthys (the Jesus Fish) on her wedding band and engagement ring, and then having half of it on his band too. That way, when the rings are apart, it's hard to tell what the symbol is, but when they're placed together you can clearly see the Jesus Fish. In ancient times, Christians were persecuted and killed for their faith. Under Roman rule, especially under Emperor Nero, it was a matter of life and death to keep your faith hidden. One way Christians were able to identify one another was by drawing this symbol in the dirt while talking. When talking to a stranger, one person would create a semi circle (half of the fish) with his or her sandal. The other person, if they were also a believer, would finish off the symbol with their sandal, and it would be known to both of them that they were both followers of Christ.
